Construction of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque began in 1996 and continued for over a decade. Named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first president of the UAE and a key figure in uniting the emirates, the mosque can accommodate over 40,000 worshippers. Its exterior is clad in more than 80,000 tons of white marble, while semi-precious stones such as lapis lazuli, jade, amethyst, and quartz were used for interior decoration. Thousands of artisans from around the world contributed to its construction, making it a truly international project.
